Marant took her first trip to California earlier this year and fell in love with its chill vibe. This collection, she said, was an ode to surfing and the early days of skateboarding. That seventies feeling meant there were cutoffs in denim or corduroy with everything from bright check button-downs to shrunken fisherman sweaters to lacy tanks. Sports references came fast and furious: A vintage-looking silk baseball jacket in embroidered washed silk was followed by nipped and fitted rugby-stripe dresses and slightly oversize football-jersey tees. On the more girly side, Marant's signature cropped jacket was cut from red bandanna fabric, and a strapless dress was smocked from a Liberty-esque purple floral print.

Last Thursday November 18th, we at Satine hosted a Trunk Show for jewelry designer ARIK KASTAN. The party, hosted by Jeanne Yang, was a more casual and relaxed event for Satine (despite the two large security guards watching over the jewels) but still classy and a total success!!

We love cardigans here at Satine. And who wouldn't, as far as function goes, they're the easiest clothing piece to wear; you can throw it on over a dress, jeans, for work, or even just laying around at home (the boyfriend's cardigan is especially nice here). Did you know the cardigan is named after the 7th Earl of Cardigan, James Brudenell? Some people get schools named after them, some get pieces of clothing.

There are tons of different types as well, button up, tie, zip up, completely open. They literally go with and complete any outfit. I've had a few friends all at different times go, "I feel so dressy. Is this too much?" My solution has always been "Throw on a cardigan." Or "I feel like I'm missing something." "Cardigan." Works every time.

Tsumori Chisato, designer

Born in the city of Saitama, Japan, Tsumori Chisato studied fashion at the prestigious Bunka Fashion School in Tokyo. In 1977, she entered the Issey Miyake design company as the head designer for “Issey Sports”, later renamed “I.S. Chisato Tsumori Design”. With this solid apprenticeship under her belt and at the encouragement of Mr. Miyake himself, Tsumori Chisato started her own line in 1990, a collection that made its catwalk debut in Tokyo at the Japan Fashion Week that same year.

I have a problem with leggings right now.
I'll be the first one to say, " It's hard to find a good pair of leggings !! "
I couldn't figure out for the life of me where girls were finding good leggings. I thought it was just a myth. Something we all know but don't talk about kinda thing. They either fade quickly, stretch out too fast or just look really unflattering over time.
This was always a mystery to me until now.
David Lerner has concocted the perfect blend of Nylon and Spandex to hold a shape and not become that gray pair of leggings after a few washes.
It's one of those things that you have to try on and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Satine is hosting its 3rd Street neighbor, CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist, George Esquivel for an evening of cocktails!!

Please come out to meet the designer, view the Fall 2009 collection, and even customize your very own pair!!

George Esquivel began honing his craft 15 years ago under the tutelage of a retired master cobbler and his creativity and love for footwear quickly blossomed into a full-time passion. His early rock and roll inspired designs soon became staples on stages across the country. Esquivel's hands bare testament to his years of personally working on each pair himself. Esquivel now oversees a team of skilled artisans with over 120 years of shared experience.

Each pair is unique in itself. Hand cutting the uppers, massaging the leather into shape on the lasts, and then cutting and finishing the out soles provides a finished product that bares the detailed markings and subtle imperfections of the laborious craftsmanship necessary to create each pair.

A man of mystery, Dries Van Noten, Belgium Designer ( 1958- ) enjoys gardening, literature, antiques and art but other than that he keeps to himself. the only way to really get to know him is through his sophisticated collection year after year. This Fall (09) SEQUINS and BEADING was a staple throughout the collection. They adorned everything from blazers to skirts to dresses. Along with a relaxed sophistication of loose fitted blazers and pleated trousers. Fall 09's collection embodied the everyday glamour woman with a flair of WWII essence.

APIECE APART ... simplicity that isn't so simple

Apiece apart is starting to be one of my favorite lines. At first I was thrown by the simplicity of the pieces. Consisting mainly of Blazers, Pants, Skirts and Blouses and of course the much needed belt and bag. But, after time seeing an APIECE APART cream blazer styled with a Thakoon blouse, Zero + Maria Cornejo Pant and chunky Alex Wang heels I started to see that simplicity was not so simple. A collaboration designed by Laura Cramer and Starr Hout out of New York City. As they put it " A simplified uniform for the modern woman. Each piece is smart, gorgeous and truly wearable. " As soon as I read that I instantly got what they were trying to achieve and QUICKLY started to get my hands on every piece I could. I mean, what girl doesn't want a new piece to add to their collection. Especially if those pieces only enhance the pieces you already have.

So, when presented with the opportunity to adorn our space with fabulous art it was a no brainer.
